Abstract
Normally, the statements in a main program or subprogram are executed line by line in the order in which they appear in the source program. Execution control statements are used to alter, to interrupt, or to stop this sequential execution sequence. The execution sequence is called the control flow. Any change of the sequential execution sequence is a branching or transfer of control. There are simple execution control statements, and there are execution control constructs consisting of several statements.
