Abstract
Around the globe, the electricity industry is undergoing a restructuring process moving from the corporate environment towards privatisation and re-regulation. The expectation is that a market-driven structure of the electricity industry can encourage competition in generation and supply, with open transmission and distribution access to enable it, and that this process can finally lead to efficiency, savings and reduced prices [1–6].
