Abstract

The objective of this protocol is to culture immature tassels or ears to observe and manipulate normal development. This is in contrast to other maize or grass infloresence culture protocols designed for somatic embryogenesis (Sharma et al. 1984; Vasil 1985; Rhodes et al. 1986; Pareddy and Petolino 1990) or to study the factors responsible for postfertilization grain filling (Donovan and Lee 1977, 1978; Singh and Jenner 1983; Nicholls 1986; Armstrong et al. 1987; Trione and Stockwell 1989).
