Abstract

The 30th anniversary of the first commercial electroslag (ES) ingot production at the “Dneprospetsstal” plant in Zaporozhye was celebrated in May 1988. Since the introduction of electroslag remelting (ESR) at the plant, continuous efforts have been made to increase processing capacity and to develop techniques for remelting a wider variety of steels. Further developments in ESR techniques and equipment were carried out jointly with research institutes, especially with the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute—the founder of ESR.
