Abstract

n-Hexane is also known as Esani, Heksan, and Hexahen (NIOSH 1978). It is used commercially as a solvent in glues, varnishes, cements, and inks (NIOSH 1977) as well as in the seed oil industry to extract the oils from various seeds, including soybean and cottonseed. Its structure and properties are shown in Table 1.

Hexane has not been included in federal and state surveys of drinking water and no information on its occurrence has been located.
