Abstract

The majority of nonepithelial gastrointestinal neoplasms are either lymphomas arising from the lymphoid tissue of the gut wall or tumors arising from the mesenchymal elements within the bowel wall. These two types of neoplasm bear no other relationship to each other except that the overall prognosis for patients with nonepithelial gastrointestinal neoplasms is generally better than for those patients who have the more common adenocarcinoma. The radiologic appearances, associated findings and patterns of metastases are considerably different as well. Furthermore, computed tomography (CT) plays a different role in the evaluation of these groups of patients; therefore, these lesions are considered in separate sections.
