Abstract
In 1972 the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments were passed, and in 1977 the Clean Air Act Amendments were passed. These laws profoundly changed the way power generation facilities handled their waste byproducts. Various updates to those acts and other legislation, both federal and state, have further regulated the release of power generation byproducts to the environment.
