Abstract
A study of immunohistochemical localization of estrogen receptor in one hundred and thirty-four human breast cancers and twenty-three metastatic lesions shows sensitivities and specificities of 91% as compared to biochemical analyses. A close correlation between the categorization of tumors by both methods is demonstrated. The immunohistochemical assay is shown to be sensitive and specific at threshold values of receptor. A comparison to clinical response for an initial cohort of twenty-three patients shows excellent predictive value for the immunohistochemical method.
