Linear Chain Platinum Haloamines

  • Chapter
Extended Linear Chain Compounds

Abstract

Though platinum metal is quite rare and expensive, the chemistry of platinum complexes is one of the oldest and most thoroughly investigated fields of inorganic chemistry.† The reason for this lies in the fact that platinum(II) compounds are invariably four-coordinated and planar while platinum(IV) species are six-coordinated and formally octahedral. The additional kinetic stability of both kinds of complexes assures a simple and well-understood stereochemistry of these materials.
