Abstract

Although hirsutism is a common clinical entity, treatment options are limited and management continues to be challenging. This discussion will address the potential utility of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) in hyperandrogenic disorders. This form of treatment is an exciting advance because the use of GnRHa for the treatment of hirsutism is not duration-limited, in that the inevitable hypoestrogenism can be managed by concurrent estrogen replacement therapy. This is in contrast to using GnRHa to treat estrogen-dependent conditions such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
