To note, SSTL and Chinese subsidiary of BLMIT, Twenty-First Century Aerospace Technology Company, Ltd. (21AT), signed a contract in June 2011 for SSTL to build three new electro-optical satellites based off the original Beijing-1 design. The new DMC-3 constellation will provide images at 1 m resolution. The deal was part of a larger trade agreement signed by Premier Wen Jiabao and Premier David Cameron worth ~RMB 13.9b. This contract offers a new business model in which the DMCii parent company SSTL will own the spacecraft and lease the capacity to China, similar to business models used for telecommunications but not for remote sensing services.
