Anal Fistula

Abstract

Video-assisted anal fistula treatment (VAAFT) technique is based on a new concept of addressing anal fistulas. The innovative points of VAAFT are the endoluminal approach and the complete execution of the procedure under direct vision. This approach makes preoperative diagnostic work and classification of the fistula unnecessary. A dedicated fistuloscope allows exploration of the fistula tract and precise location of the internal opening followed by the destruction of the fistula walls and the closure of the anorectal opening. The result is a minimally invasive approach that does not affect anal sphincter integrity. The main technical steps and preliminary results are presented.
