Standard Operating Procedures Followed by the Petten BNC-Team during Patient Treatment

  • Chapter
Frontiers in Neutron Capture Therapy

Abstract

In July 1997, the first European clinical trial on BNCT (EORTC 11961) was officially opened. The first patient was subsequently treated soon after in October. The treatment takes place at the High Flux Reactor (HFR) at Petten in The Netherlands.1 The approach to treat a patient at a nuclear research reactor requires a complex organisational structure, which is further exacerbated by the involvement of technical staff unaccustomed to dealing with patients, as well as working alongside clinicians.
