Abstract
The surface fluxivity standards given in Figure 168 are used in the field to establish operating levels for analog magnetic tape recording and playback. For many years, “Ampex reference level” was established by the recorded signal at 700 Hz that produced a given amount of distortion on a given sample of tape stock. In time, absolute measurement of tape surface fluxivity determined the recorded signal to be 185 nanowebers/meters (nW/m).
