Abstract
Determination of defect sizes of small pores or inclusions in engineering ceramics is a requirement for the prediction of component strength and reliability. Many authors have developed experimental procedures and processing algorithms for sizing defects in the Rayleigh and resonance regime of acoustical scattering. In this work, we have tested some common techniques for defect sizing on small inclusions in SiC, SiSiC and Al2O3 ceramics with emphasis on considering practical experimental limitations. Different techniques have been applied to correlate the nondestructive results with the results of other nondestructive and destructive techniques.
