Inverse Relationship Between Serum Triglyceride Levels and Fractional Urate Excretion

Abstract

Hyperuricaemia is known to be related to hyperlipidaemia. Evidence for an uricosuric effect of fenofibrate and for a lipid lowering effect of benzbromarone has been reported.1 Furthermore, after dietary intervention, 15 hyperuricaemic-hyperlipidaemic subjects showed considerably decreased triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations and increased renal excretion of uric acid.2 These observations suggest a relation between serum lipid levels and renal excretion of uric acid. This relation has been the objective of the present study. Some of the possible underlying mechanisms are discussed.
