Abstract

A centrifugal pump must be suitable for operation with the system in which it is used. To select a suitable pump, the characteristics of the system must be considered. It is usually easy to determine the characteristics of the system, but, occasionally, a complicated system that requires analysis of each of its parts is encountered. It is not possible to provide a detailed analysis of every type of problem that may be encountered when using centrifugal pumps. However, the following discussion of a few typical examples will acquaint the reader with the general method of solving such problems.
