Abstract

Many of the thoughts presented in this paper are well known to thoses involved with the study and applications of remote sensing. There is merit sometimes though in going back over simple ideas that are basic and important. There is merit too in constantly groping to understand the role of a technology in the context of a world of changing lifestyles and values. This paper attempts to do that, and at the same time suggest a set of values which stresses quality of life, harmony with nature, international responsibility and the principle of self limitation.
