Germinal Centers: A Microenvironment for the Production of Antibody Forming Cell Precursors?

  • Chapter
Microenvironmental Aspects of Immunity

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 29))

Abstract

Previous studies (1,2) on the B-cell system in rabbits have shown that part of this cell system (i.e. the lymphocyte corona and the marginal zone cell system of follicular structures) derives from germinal centers (i) and that these germinal-center-derived lymphoid cells may perform as antibody forming cell precursors (ii). It was also shown that germinal centers in turn are dependent upon an influx of bone marrow derived cells.
