Abstract

Data impose constraints in the definition, design, implementation and use of an automatic system for the analysis of digitized astronomical plates. The aim of this paper is to report some exploratory steps performed in the design of such a system (the Automatic Assistent: AA) in support to this often claimed statement. Therefore we discuss the rationale which is behind the design of the whole system and, due to the lack of space, a diary of the experiments which lead to the present definition of the image segmentation tools.
