Abstract
Let me just mention a couple reflections now that we are close to our fifth anniversary of the first report of AIDS and three years since the evidence that a retrovirus caused the Illness (first laboratory evidence). It’s probably about four years since most people were pretty sure that It was caused by an Infectious agent. It’s been two years since the majority of the scientific world believed that it was due to an HIV infection and fifteen months since the licensing of the serologic tests. New York City and New York State have really played leadership roles in the recognition of virtually eyery stage of the problem and the entire world has often looked to New York and the United States for ways to deal with the very complex issues related to AIDS.
