Abstract

In recent years professional health organizations have increasingly recognized the need to provide contraceptive educational services to youth. A survey of students and faculty in nursing schools in the United States found 75% agreeing that family planning education should be given to anyone who deserves it (Shea et al., 1973). Although there has been a considerable increase in the number of nursing schools instructing students in the methods of contraception, there has been a lag in preparing nurses to deal with attitudinal aspects (Garret, 1972). In particular, nurses have not been trained to examine their own attitudes which might inhibit them against disseminating contraceptive knowledge (Garret, 1972: 27).
