Abstract

The use of iron—graphite P/M materials for bearing and friction applications has been increasing in recent years. They have proved successful and are beginning to gain over materials based on the copper —graphite system. New American [1] and English [2] papers report that a considerable amount of iron-base friction material is already being produced. Several papers have appeared in Czechoslovakia [4-7] on the application of iron—graphite for frictional purposes. It seems that even Japan has started the production of sintered iron—graphite in large quantities [3]. In Germany iron—graphite sintered materials were developed a few years ago and successfully introduced into practice [9-14]. Bearing materials on the same basis have also proved successful and found industrial application.
