Abstract

These few remarks are intended to set the stage for the three speakers who will follow. They will include some background on the history of toxicology, a review of the key concepts in this profession, and of the forces shaping investigations in toxicology and will conclude with a recitation of the steps leading to the development of a new chemical material. This generalized introduction will make it easier to follow the more specific and detailed presentations of Drs. Winek, Gibson and Carson.
