Abstract
This paper is intended to provide a brief review of conventional ergonomic control design and placement, and to indicate future directions that control research and design may take, A control is defined here as a device used by the hands or feet (limbs) of an operator to apply signals or control inputs to a system. Controls represent the primary means of commanding most systems. There are some exceptions of course, such as voice-commanded systems.
