Abstract

This paper summarizes the development and the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, and examines their application to astronomy. Areas of actual and possible use are identified. An attempt is made to extrapolate into future applications, emphasizing inter-disciplinary aspects and improvements of research methodology.
