Abstract
The clinician and the laboratorian are aware of the wide variety of new and innovative methods for the diagnosis of urogenital disease. Subsequent papers in this volume will provide methodologic and analytical precision and accuracy of a variety of instruments and techniques for diagnosis. This review will focus on 3 areas of interest: a) a broad overview of technology, b) the relevance of laboratory data, and c) practical considerations of Beysian statistics as they apply to microbiology.
