Abstract

We start our main business, the study of invariant differential operators, by using certain invariance properties with respect to certain subgroups arising from basic decompositions. This chapter deals with the Iwasawa and Cartan Lie decompositions, which are immediate on GL n (R) or SL n (R). Further chapters will deal with the properties which arise from other decompositions.
