Abstract

Given the substantial advances that have been made in the understanding of how immune responses are induced and regulated, it should be possible to design vaccine adjuvants deliberately rather than empirically. This approach has led to the demonstration that at least three of the cytokines involved in interactions between immunological cells have significant adjuvant properties when given together with antigen.
