Abstract

Conventional refrigeration cycles which use precoolants generally specify certain temperature levels of cooling baths. These are 77° to 65°K for nitrogen precooling and the region of 20°K for hydrogen precooling. Therefore, the number of reasonable cycles is somewhat restricted. However, using only expanders to generate the cooling power much more freedom exists in developing refrigeration systems and it becomes necessary to find principle s for developing new cycles—at least for efficient ones.
