Abstract
Piping may be made of many different materials, with steel and iron perhaps the most usual. Pipe sizes vary, and are usually specified by the inner diameter. The pipe thickness or wall is designated by its strength, usually indicated by pipe schedule. The pipe schedule number is the ratio of the in-ternal pressure in psi divided by the allowable fiber stress multiplied by 1000. Typical schedules of iron and steel pipe are schedules 40, 80, and 160.
