Abstract

Undernutrition and malnutrition among children and adults in a number of countries on all continents of the world has been so widespread that the effects of this socioeconomic problem of human eugenics cannot be ignored. In the earlier part of this century most concern was concentrated on vitamins and mineral deficiencies and resulting diseases (including endemic goiter) but during recent years investigators have also been concerned about the avaiability of sufficient quantities of high-quality proteins and calories especially to the vulnerable groups of the human population.
