Abstract
Discovery of vitamins helped to reveal the nature of such severe diseases as scurvy, beri-beri, pernicious anemia, etc. Wide vitamin utilization for preventive and therapeutic purposes led to the fact that in most developed countries diseases of vitamin deficiences have become rare and the problem of such deficiences is rather socio-economic than scientific. Although the development of balanced nutrition favoured disappearance of alimentary avitaminosis there appeared in literature the description of diseases with clinical signs similar to avitaminosis but occuring in normal vitamin status.
