Replication and Analysis of DNA

  • Chapter
Bacterial and Bacteriophage Genetics

Abstract

The study of genetics is really the study of the properties, synthesis, and inheritance of nucleic acids. Most of the topics in this book revolve around deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), although some of the viruses discussed in later chapters have ribonucleic acid (RNA) as their genetic material. This chapter presents basic information about DNA and the methods used to study it. The material is fundamental for all discussions that follow.
