Abstract

Shot, defined as“the smallest addressable unit having the finest level of descriptive granularity”, is a cinematic term, which“consists of one or more frames generated and recorded contiguously”. Thus, a shot“represents a continuous action in time and space” [Davenport et al., 1991]. Generally speaking, a shot has a clearly defined physical scope and is solely associated with visual information. Based on the content change style, there are two basic types of shots, namely, the camera break and the gradual transition as discussed in Chapter 2.
