Abstract
The value of plain—film diagnosis in acute abdominal conditions is unquestioned. The visceral gas pattern is studied routinely in patients presenting clinical evidence of intestinal obstruction, perforation of a viscus, or an intraabdominal mass. Little appreciated and often neglected, however, are the diagnostic potentialities of abdominal films in more chronic and clinically occult conditions.1,2
