Abstract

Over the last decade, much attention has been devoted to the generation and understanding of the process of high-order harmonic generation (HHG).1–5 The potential applications for extremely short-duration (~fs), coherent, VUV and soft-x-ray radiation are numerous.6–9 For in-vitro biological imaging in particular, there has been a need for a compact source of radiation in the so called “water window” region, between the carbon and oxygen K-edges, where water is less absorbing than carbon. In this work we report on our efforts to extend the excellent qualities of high-harmonic generation as a radiation source into the water window region.
