Control of Botrytis Rot of Grapes and Vegetables with Trichoderma Spp.

Biological Control of Plant Diseases

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSA,volume 230))

Abstract

Control of grey mould, incited by Botrytis cinerea Pers., over the past years has become complicated due to development of strains of the pathogen resistant to benzimidazole and/or dicarboximide fungicides. This phenomenon is quite widespread in all grape-growing areas and in most vegetable crops, particularly those grown under greenhouse (Gullino and Garibaldi, 1986). Moreover, as more chemicals are withdrawn from the market because of toxicological problems, and fewer new ones are developed, the need for alternative control strategies that may help avoid exclusive use of chemicals is becoming more important (Lynch, 1988).
