Spectral Entrainment in Second Harmonic Coherent Light Generated by Semiconductor Laser Diodes

Abstract

The phenomena of mutual entrainment have been recognized as a pulling effect of a group of oscillators in various fields. This paper demonstrates the possibility of the mutual entrainment in optical second harmonic generation (SHG) in a semiconductor laser diode [1], which gives a dipping and pullimg structure in the harmonic spectra, while there are no shuck structures in the fundamental spectra. The coexisting fundamental polarization and second harmonic polarization may pick up noises independently, giving rise to the quadratic randomness needed in the Wiener’s theory of nonlinear random processes[2].
