Package Execution from .NET

  • Chapter
Extending SSIS with .NET Scripting

Abstract

This chapter shows you how to execute a package from a .NET application, which could be a web application, a web service, a Windows service, or a Windows application. Since there are two deployment models, there are also two different ways to execute packages; however, there is one requirement: you need SQL Server Integration Services installed on the same machine as your application. The packages will run on this machine. If this is not possible in your situation, you could create a web service on machine A to execute packages locally and then call that web service from an application that runs on machine B. Another alternative is to let your code on machine B execute a remote SQL Server Agent job on machine A to execute a package locally. In both cases, the application runs on machine B, but the package runs on machine A.
