Abstract
Movements of joints in response to forces, awareness of joint position, the mechanics of joint protection and the intricate interaction of a joint with its working muscle groups, i.e., biomechanics, has been ascribed to various sensory receptors classified as mechanoreceptors. The knee is easily subjected to traumatic injuries, especially sports related, and usually involves the anterior cruciate ligament, the great stabilizer of the knee joint. Treatment of the anterior cruciate-deficient knee is still a debatable subject. In view of this, there has been renewed orthopedic interest in the ligamentous neurology of the human anterior cruciate ligament and other joint tissues associated with the knee such as the meniscus.
