Abstract

A number of important materials are used primarily for construction of buildings, highways, bridges, and much of the infrastructure of any country. In this chapter, we look at three of the most important materials: wood, concrete, and asphalt. These materials are, in fact, composite materials, and at least part of their characteristics can be explained in terms of our discussion in the previous chapter.
