Abstract
The AA became involved in computing in 1964 with the purchase of its first mainframe computer. Like many other organisations, the Association continued to grow the mainframe systems by using proprietary products. By 1987 however, it had become obvious that things had to change, and it was perceived that a new strategy was needed, a framework within which to base decisions on IT investments, and by which to address the increasing business requirements of the AA.
