Abstract
The concept of language impairment was introduced in Chapter 2 and the factors commonly associated with it discussed in Chapter 3. In the latter it was observed that one of the most marked associated factors was the high number of language impaired children who presented with behaviour problems — in the region of 50%. This aspect of language impairment is discussed at greater length in the present chapter. In particular it focuses on different possible explanations for the relationship between language and behaviour. The role of parents is emphasized and two theoretical perspectives are offered. The chapter ends with some implications for practice.
