Abstract

A number of visually impaired clients, particularly elderly ones, are likely to possess one or more additional impairments, making the task of rehabilitation even more difficult for you both. Common difficulties are a hearing impairment, or the presence of a physical disability which may restrict movement and make it difficult to master standard techniques. As these additional impairments present their own specific challenges, not necessarily of a psychological nature, this chapter will not attempt to deal with them in any detail. Those of you requiring such information are recommended to consult Erin (1989) on how to deal with multiple disabilities.
