Abstract

Why is truth important? One reason is this: having access to true information about matters concerning oneself is important because of its intimate connection with autonomy and agency. Agency is the ability to act. Individual persons are agents; groups of people can also be agents. But the agency of a person or a group can be impaired or diminished. (In section 5.3 above we noted the suggestion that the medical assistant role diminishes the nurse’s agency.
