Abstract
In this chapter, a brief review is given of the transformations of the theory of special relativity. A reader interested in a more comprehensive discussion is referred to the author’s books An Introduction to the Theory of Relativity (Butterworths, London, 1964), and Introductory Relativity (Butterworths, London, 1967). In this chapter, these books will be referred to as I and II respectively, followed by the appropriate section numbers. In this monograph, we shall be concerned only with the theory of special relativity, or the restricted theory of relativity as it is sometimes called. This theory relates phenomena to inertial reference frames only. Effects associated with accelerating reference frames will not be considered.
