Abstract
Malignant melanoma can simulate a benign nevus or other malignant neoplasm due its various histologic variants. These include nevoid, desmoplastic and neurotropic, lentigo maligna, amelanotic, Spitzoid, and acral lentiginous. In addition, there are the rare malignant blue nevus and melanoma arising in association with a neurocristic hamartoma. This chapter will be devoted to reviewing the problematic issues of melanoma histologic presentations and to suggesting resolution to these diagnostic dilemmas.
