Abstract

One of the most notable trends since 2009 has been the rise of social activist or ‘call to action’ works. In an age of digital connectivity, artists are exploiting new levels of access and exposure to launch social and political conversations. Alternative means of financial backing are being exploited, while social media is being used as an inexpensive way to promote works. Artists are increasingly using mobile devices to make art and distribute it online. This chapter examines a number of more recent digital works reflect these shifts.
