Abstract

Spontaneous aortic dissection (AoD) is a rare, life-threatening disease, yet it is the most common catastrophe of the aorta with a high mortality rate reported around 22–24%. It has a higher prevalence in a population with risk factors such as dilation of the aorta, connective tissue disorders, vasculitis, certain congenital heart diseases, age, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. However, even in the absence of risk factors, non-traumatic rupture of a dissecting aorta may occur.
